Amaechi, a product of voodoo ballot process – Mimiko
•Says NGF crisis most unfortunate
From TAIWO AMODU, Abuja
The outcome of the disputed Nigeria Governors Forum election held penultimate Friday, where Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, was re-elected as chairman has polarised the 36 states governors in the country into two camps: the pro-Amaechi and the pro-Jonathan/ Jang factions.
At an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja last Friday, Ondo State Governor and deputy chairman of the Jonah Jang faction, Dr. Olusegun Mimmiko, restated his submission that the election that returned Amaechi to office as chairman of the Forum was a charade.

Anenih and 2015 elections: Who is afraid of primaries?
By Roz Ben-Okagbue
The full implication of the recently truncated Nigerian Governos’ Forum (NGF) election result was not lost on the powers that be even though many less politically inclined Nigerians were unable to grasp it. It clearly indicated that one cannot rely on the governors (or any delegates from their states) to ensure that the current President will scale through the 2015 primaries. Indeed it is now obvious that should primaries be held today with the level of transparency with which it was conducted the last time, the President may not win. The overwhelming support received from the North in 2011 cannot be guaranteed this time around and without that, the outcome of the election is most unlikely to be successful.

Jonathan’s faulty self-assessment

Jonathan’s faulty self-assessment

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
IN his rather flattering self-assessment of his first three years as President, Goodluck Jonathan recently, unwittingly, highlighted the ever-widening gulf between Nigerians and their leaders. While public opinion unmistakeably writes off the administration as inept, vacillating and soft on corruption, Jonathan and his team have repeatedly awarded themselves pass marks. His latest challenge to the electorate to set performance yardsticks for him will have many takers. Chances are that the results will not be so flattering.

• ‘Why Debt Instrument Was Moribund For 18 Yrs’
AFTER paying a total of $76.78 million for debt service in 2012, the total external debt stock of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, now stands at $2,384,178 million, according to official figures released by the Debt Management Office (DMO).
The Director-General of the DMO, Mr. Abraham Nwankwo, also noted that the market for debt instrument on the domestic front, especially bonds, was moribund for 18 years because the Military era didn’t subject itself to the discipline of the market.
